ELDER'S UPDATE
Only 6.3% of the population in rural Pennsylvania attend a Bible believing church. Let that sink in for a moment. For every 100 people, only 6 of them attend a Bible believing church, which means that less than 6 people are actual followers of Jesus Christ. That is an incredible statistic, typically reserved for other countries, found right here in our backyard. The saddest part about that statistic is the lack of men who are interested and willing to minister in rural Pennsylvania. A survey of the churches in our denomination will show many rural churches who either are pastorless or have Pastors nearing retirement. That doesn’t even include the numerous communities that lack a Bible believing, gospel focused church. This reality should grieve us and yet push us to plug the holes here in our backyard. Since the beginning, our heart has been to see Sunbury City Church plant other churches up and down our valley. In the last 2 years, we have partnered with Winfield Baptist Church to begin training 2 men (Chapin and Steve), to hopefully start churches in Selinsgrove and Milton. But that’s not enough. We need 10’s if not 100’s of faithful men of God, proclaiming Jesus across our state. To tackle this problem, this past month, Derek attended a conference where he was able to connect with other pastors in a new network called the Pillar Network. At this conference, Derek met a number of pastors who have the same exact desire to see churches started or revitalized for the glory of God. The biggest difficulty is finding the men called by God to do so. As a result, we have begun to pray for God to send us these men so that we might see more people come to faith in Jesus Christ. Would you join us in praying for mature men to be brought to Sunbury City Church to be trained so that new churches are able to be started and people come to faith in Jesus Christ?
